2023 Week XXXVII.

 Hello Internet,

The plague has largely passed.  Kangaroo and I are coughing up phlegm, and in my case, I am coughing up a lot of it.  Noodle is getting sick now, and she is miserable.  I missed work last Friday, and I am afraid to go back.  My anxiety is doing as it always does.  Mountains out of molehills.

I have adapted my schedule, but that won't be seen until later.  Right now, Ratatoskr is at a friend's birthday party.  I overheard that friend's sister saying that he is her boyfriend, and I'm going to be honest: I am not ready.  

Parenting is rough.

On the other hand, he looks super cute in his little cowboy outfit, so...Fair trade?

I am trying to get back into writing, and I think I have found a place in my schedule where I can do it.  We'll just have to see if I can get the willpower and focus to enact it.

2023 Week XXXVI.

 Hello Internet,

Sickness has visited my home, and it has overstayed its welcome.

Kangaroo got sick on Tuesday.  I left work early to go and get him, and then I stayed with him on Tuesday.  Noodle took over for Wednesday, and then I took over again on Thursday and Friday.  Thursday night, he seemed to be getting better, but Friday morning he was running a fever when we woke up.  He seems to have a cold, but he is also teething and has a number of teeth growing in.  The problem is, he's not eating or drinking anything, and it's preventing him from getting good sleep.  Today, he seems to be on the mend.  Hopefully, we can have him back in daycare by Monday.

Meanwhile, I missed my Meet the Teacher with my students on Wednesday because Ratatoskr was having such a hard time.  When the kids are sick, we have to be careful to partition them due to Monkey's cancer diagnosis.  Theoretically, they're all already exposed, but we want to be careful.  Ratatoskr is already struggling due to the transition back to school, but that was too much.  I had asked him to go to his room at one point, and that was too much.  He refused, and it turned into a battle.  He had a melt down, and we ended up rushing him to the ER to get mental health help--help which they are not equipped/willing to provide in the way in which we need it.  Mental health in the U.S. is a joke anyway, but it ended up being a waste of time.  Good news: he has an appointment with his primary care physician, and hopefully we can get him some medication to help him regulate his feelings when they get too big for him to control.

Lastly, Monkey is immunocompromised, and we found out on Friday night that she has COVID.  So, that's fun.  I had more to say, but it's 9:28 as I am finishing this, and I want to go to bed.

2023 Week XXXV.

 Hello Internet, 

One week down, some indeterminate number to go.  I overheard another teacher discussing the number of weeks left as I was on my way out last Friday, but I didn't keep track.  I think that sort of counting is dangerous, even if I think it is healthy to have something to look forward to.

The weekend blew by too quickly, but I am finding my ground.  I have not slept later than 4am until today, and I am enjoying the free time I have.  Truth is, I don't quite know what I am doing on Monday, but I have planning in the morning and will work it out then.  Next week will, eventually, be iReady diagnostic, and that will consume the better part of the week.  So, there is that to look forward to?  It might free me some time to write or do whatever I want or enjoy.  Until then...

No cell phones in class!
